How Do I Sacrifice

Sabbath, January 16, 2016.  Pastor Dorsey II.  Sermon Title:  How Do I Sacrifice.  Supporting Scripture Luke 9:23-25.

Sometime later, God tested Abraham’s faith.  Abraham! God called.  Yes, he replied.  Here I am.  Take your son, your only son yes, Isaac, whom you love so much and go to the land of Moriah.  Go and sacrifice him as a burnt offering on one of the mountains, which I will show you.  Genesis 22: 1,2 NLT

What Is My Sacrifice?

Communication, Clarity and Commitment.

We need to communicate and hear God clearly.  We need to stop playing with God.  Now that we are clear we need to be committed and do it.

How Do I Sacrifice?

We can’t sacrifice with out obedience.

Don’t fool yourself into thinking that you are a listener when you are anything but, letting the Word go in one ear and out the other.  Act on what you hear! James 1:22 The Message Bible

What is more pleasing to the Lord:  your burnt offerings and sacrifices or your obedience to His voice? Listen! Obedience is better than sacrifice, and submission is better than offering the fat of rams.  Rebellion is as sinful as witchcraft, and stubbornness as bad as worshiping idols.  So because you have rejected the command of the Lord, He has rejected you as king.  1 Samuel 15: 22,23 NLT

Quit your worship charades.  I can’t stand your trivial religious games: Monthly conferences, weekly Sabbaths, special meetings meetings, meetings, meetings I can’t stand one more!  Meetings for this, meetings for that. I hate them!  You’ve worn Me out! I’m sick of your religion, religion, religion, while you go right on sinning.  When you put on your next prayer-performance, I’ll be looking the other way.  No matter how long or loud or often you pray, I’ll not be listening.  And you know why?  Because you’ve been tearing people to pieces, and your hands are bloody.  Go home and wash up.  Clean up your act.  Sweep your lives clean of your evildoings so I don’t have to look at them any longer.  Isaiah 1: 13-16 The Message Bible

Are we not convicted or do we not want to obey?

  • Intentional

Deliberate, absolute, purposeful.

We are not going to be saved accidentally.

Genesis 22:6-8 NLT Read how Abraham got to work.

  • Awareness

John 12:29 When the crowd heard the voice, some thought it was thunder, while others declared an angel had spoken to them.  NLT

Every body’s awareness isn’t the same.  It’s a sin not to do something that we know we ought to do.  We will see things other people won’t see.

On the third day of their journey, Abraham looked up and saw the place in the distance

When we tell you these things, we do not use words that come from human wisdom.  Instead, we speak words given to us by the Spirit, using the Spirit’s words to explain spiritual truths.

But people who aren’t spiritual can’t receive these truths from God’s Spirit.  It all sounds foolish to them and they can’t understand it, for only those who are spiritual can understand what the Spirit means.  1 Corinthians 2:13,14 NLT

  • Faithfulness

“Stay here with the donkey, Abraham told the servants.  The boy and I will travel a little farther.  We will worship there, and then we will come right back.”

Faith of Abraham

WE are going up!

WE are going to worship!

WE are coming back!

This was a situation between Abraham and his God.  Abraham understood that his obedience called for faithfulness.

Don’t you remember that our ancestor Abraham was shown to be right with God by his actions when he offered his son Isaac on the altar?  You see, his faith and his actions worked together.  His actions made his faith complete.

And so it happened just as the Scriptures say: Abraham believed God, and God counted him as righteous because of his faith.  He was even called the friend of God.  So you see, we are shown to be right with God by what we do, not by faith alone.  James 2: 21-24 NLT

If we don’t act on what He is showing us over this fasting period, we are wasting our time.  Be prepared to see things so you can act on it.  We have to stop walking around like we are defeated.  We need to act like we already have it.

Dear Heavenly Father,

Thank You so much for wanting us to have communication, clarity and commitment when we talk to You and serve You.  Forgive us for not hearing and obeying You.  Forgive us for not studying Your Word and mining the principles and promises that come from more than a casual reading and conversation with You.

We now know that Obedience pleases You and we must be intentional, possess awareness and faithfulness to show up in the world the way You want us to.  We must have these things in place to love and serve well.  Give us a burning desire to accomplish and be these things in our lives.  We get You want it All and that You gave Your All in Your Son Jesus Christ and we are forever grateful.  Thank You for loving us. Thank You for Your forgiveness of our sins.

We stood in dedication to have Your Holy Spirit work in our lives to be what only You can help be as we listen and obey.

Now, Father, we also want to lift up to You our church officer list. You know the names listed and You know the people who choose to serve in capacities that are not on the list. Please give them joy and courage to step up and join You at work in an area of their gifting.

Please keep us faithful as we live this last week of the Daniel Fast. Let us finish strong and well. We look forward to celebrating Sabbath with those who did whatever level they committed to on the fast.  Thank You for this concentrated one accord time with you.

Thank You for those who served on the committee week after week and sacrificed their time and energy to do Your Kingdom work.  Bless us as we work together and move forward to hasten Your second coming.  We want to be found faithful and hear WELL DONE thou good and faithful servant!

We pray, praise and thank You.  Amen in Jesus name.
