Sabbath, April 2, 2016. Pastor Dorsey II. Sermon Title: Who Do You Think You Are? Supporting Scripture Galatians 6:9-10, NLT
Jonah has to understand that God is in the saving business.
Jonah  4:1-3.
This change of plans greatly upset Jonah, and he became very angry.  So he complained to the Lord about it; Didn’t I say before I left home that you would do this, Lord?  That is why I ran away to Tarshish!  I knew that you are a merciful an compassionate God, slow to get angry and filled with unfailing love.  You are eager to turn back from destroying people.  Just kill me now, Lord! I’d rather be dead than alive if what I predicted will not happen.
The Lord gave his message to Jonah son of Amittai; Get u and go to the great city of Nineveh.  Announce my judgment against it because I have seen how wicked its people are.  Jeroboam II recovered the territories of Israel between Lebo-hamath and the Dead Sea, just as the Lord, the God of Israel, had promised through Jonah son of Amittai, the prophet from Gath-hepher. 2 Kings 14:25 NLT
Jonah was told directly by God to do something.  Read the book of Nahum to understand how wicked Nineveh has become.  Jonah was used to having what he said to happen come to pass.
God Given Mission
• Love
• Obey
• Forgive
• Teach & Baptize
Jonah tried to hide from God while running from his mission and falls asleep on the boat.
But Jonah got up and went in the opposite direction to get away from the Lord.  He went down to the port of Joppa, where he found a ship leaving for Tarshish.  He bought a ticket and went on board, hoping to escape from the Lord by sailing to Tarshish.
But the Lord hurled a powerful wind over the sea, causing a violent storm that threatened to break the ship apart.  Fearing for their lives, the desperate sailors shouted to their gods for help and threw the cargo overboard to lighten the ship.  But all this time Jonah was sound asleep down in the hold.  So the captain went down after him.  How can you sleep at a time like this?  He shouted.  Get up and pray to your god! Maybe he will pay attention to us and spare our lives.
God Knows Our Delusions
We don’t pray or obey yet we say we have a relationship with God.
Disobedience causes our delusions.
When the cool evening breezes were blowing, the man hand his wife heard the Lord God walking about in the garden.  So they hid from the Lord God among the trees.  Then the Lord God called to the man, Where are you? He replied, I heard you walking in the garden, so I hid.  I was afraid because I was naked.  Genesis 3:8-10. NLT
Am I a God who is only close at hand? Says the Lord.  No, I am fare away at the same time.  Can anyone hide from Me in a secret place? Am I not everywhere in all the heavens and earth? Says the Lord.  Jeremiah 23:24-25 NLT
Delusional On…
• Love
• Obey
• Forgive
• Teach & Baptize
We fake love, we convolute the Sabbath when we do other things besides put God first, we need to learn how to forgive especially when we see God has changed a person, and we need to be active in the community to have an impact on it.
God Sees Our Influence
Some of us don’t recognize that our storms affect other people.
In Disobedience
• Comfortable
• Entitled
• Selfish
O Lord, they pleaded, don’t make us die for this man’s sin.  And don’t hold us responsible for his death.  O Lord, yo have sent this storm upon him for your own good reasons.
The sailors picked Jonah up and threw him into the raging sea, and the storm stopped at once! The sailors were awestruck by the Lord’s great power, and they offered him a sacrifice and vowed to serve him.
They found God in somebody else’s storm.
Now the Lord had arranged for a great fish to swallow Jonah.  And Jonah was inside the fish for three days and three nights.
God Speaks Our Language
God Said… used over 3,800.  There are between 6500-7000 languages in our world today.
Some of us only hear Him speak to us in some kind of trauma, suffering or financial difficulty, etc He is trying to reach us.
Speak the Language of love and remember that we can’t be confused about our mission.
Dear Heavenly Father,
Thank You so much for your patience, unconditional love and redemption.  We often get it twisted, Who do we think we are?  You gave us a mission and we run from it as well and procrastinate on doing it.  Please help us to love, obey, forgive, teach and baptize. Forgive us for being delusional and disobedient feeling comfortable, entitled and selfish.  You do speak our language and You died to have us fulfill our mission as You fulfilled Yours.  Give us the desire and the fulfillment of completing our mission as long as You give us breath.  We pray, praise and thank You.    Amen
