Sabbath, March 5, 2016. Pastor Dorsey II. Sermon Title: To Know Him. Supporting Scriptures Matthew 7: 21-23.
There are some of our facilities where Christianity is declared but not practiced.
Read Luke 5:17-25 NLT
One day while Jesus was teaching, some Pharisees and teachers of religious law were sitting nearby. (It seemed that these men showed up from every village in all Galilee and Judea, as well as from Jerusalem.) And the Lord’s healing power was strongly with Jesus.
Know His Presence
Jesus was healing everything.
Miracles of Christ
- Water to Wine
- Noblemans son
- Great Catch of Fish
- Demoniac in Synagogue
- Peter’s Mother in law
We fake His presence.
“Knowing the correct password saying ‘Master, Master,’ for instance isn’t going to get you anywhere with me. What is required is serious obedience doing what my Father wills. I can see it now at the Final Judgment thousands strutting up to me and saying, ‘Master, we preached the Message, we bashed the demons, our God-sponsored projects had everyone talking. And do you know what I am going to say? ‘You missed the boat. All you did was use me to make yourselves important. You don’t impress me one bit. You’re out of here.’ Matthew 7:21-23, The Message Bible
God forbid that we find ourselves in that state.
Some men came carrying a paralyzed man on a sleeping mat. They tried to take him inside to Jesus, but they couldn’t reach Him because of the crowd. So they went up to the roof and took off some tiles. Then they lowered the sick man on his mat down into the crowd, right in front of Jesus. Seeing their faith, Jesus said to the man, “Young man, your sins are forgiven.”
His friends bought him to the place and Jesus saw their faith. We need to find one person that is in need of some hope and love.
Know His People
You can identify them by their fruit, that is, by the way they act. Can you pick grapes from thorn bushes, or figs from thistles? A good tree produces good fruit, and a bad tree produces bad fruit. A good tree can’t produce bad fruit, and a bad tree can’t produce good fruit. So every tree that does not produce good fruit is chopped down and thrown into the fire. Yes, just as you can identify a tree by its fruit, so you can identify people by their actions. Matthew 7:16-20 NLT
Everyone that prays isn’t praying. Everyone at church isn’t a Christian. Attach yourselves to those who know Christ. They bought their friend to Jesus without judging him.
We keep catching spiritual black eyes. When somebody shows you who they are believe them.
For God is not unjust. He will not forget how hard you have worked for Him and how you have shown your love to Him by caring for other believers, as you still do. Our great desire is that you will keep on loving others as long as life lasts, in order to make certain that what you hope for will come true. Then you will not become spiritually dull and indifferent. Instead, you will follow the example of those who are going to inherit God’s promises because of their faith and endurance. Hebrews 6: 10-12 NLT
Jesus healed the young man of his sin problem. He looked past the physical to the spiritual reasons of his illness and sin. The priest had already stated that the man was hopeless. They thought how dare Jesus say he is forgiven and be healed by Him. They had a problem with that.
How dare we put anybody in the hopeless boat. Why do we get offended when people come to church to be saved? There are things that we are dealing with that we cover up.
But the Pharisees and teachers of religious law said to themselves, “Who does He think He is? That’s blasphemy! Only God can forgive sins!” Jesus knew what they were thinking, so He asked them, “Why do you question this in your hearts? Is it easier to say ‘Your sins are forgiven,’ or ‘Stand up and walk’? So I will prove to you that the Son of Man has the authority on earth to forgive sins.”
Know His Purpose
Jesus wants to save everyone. God can forgive any sin and save you.
“Don’t pick on people, jump on their failures, criticize their faults unless, of course, you want the same treatment. That critical spirit has a way of boomeranging. It’s easy to see a smudge on your neighbor’s face and be oblivious to the ugly sneer on your own. Do you have the nerve to say, ‘ Let me wash your face for you,’ when your own face is distorted by contempt? It’s this whole traveling abroad-show mentality all over again, playing a holier-than-thou part instead of just living your part. Wipe that ugly sneer off your own face, and you might be fit to offer a washcloth to your neighbor. Matthew 7:1-5, The Message Bible
Then Jesus turned to the paralyzed man and said, “Stand up, pick up your mat, and go home!” And immediately, as everyone watched, the man jumped up, picked up his mat, and went home praising God.
Everyone was gripped with great wonder and awe, and they praised God, exclaiming, “We have seen amazing things today!”
BE PREPARED FOR HIS POWER
How dare we come in His Presence and not be changed! We are here to be challenged and loved.
Dear Heavenly Father,
Thank You so much for loving us. You are an AWESOME God! We can search all over and not find anyone like You. You are merciful, kind and just. Please forgive us for not cultivating a relationship with You where we depend totally on You. We want to get to know You. We want to know Your Presence. We want to not only know Your people and we want to be Your people. We want to know Your purpose and we need to be prepared for Your power. Give us a desire to experience all of these things and save us in Your Kingdom. Thank You for Who You are and for redemption. We praise, pray and thank You. In Jesus name. Amen.
